Penelope is told that Odysseus is alive and in Ithaca. Odysseus, returns home disguised as a beggar, to find that his servants have been unfaithful to his will and the suitors being abusive. No one recognizes Odysseus except his dog, Argos. While Odysseus was gone, Argos had been had been treated terribly; doing the best he could to wag his tale when he heard Odysseus. The slaves and servants took advantage while Odysseus was away. Odysseus was taunted by the suitors but Penelope protected him knowing he had news of Odysseus. Penelope tells, Eurycleia to wash his feet and as she is washing his feet she recognizes a scar on his leg. Eurycleia realizes that the beggar is Odysseus, cause she knows that scar. Athena has cast a spell on Penelope so she doesn't recognize Odysseus, and Eurycelia keeps his identity a secret and assures him that all of the suitors will die.
