Odysseus and his men found and entered a cave, where they helped themselves to the food and drinks they found there, then they slept. A cyclops, named Polyphemus, returned to the cave. When he found Odysseus and his men in the cave, he became angry, grabbing two of the men, smashing their heads against the rocks then ate them, and fell asleep; the cyclops did this everyday till Odysseus devised a plan. He and his men took large piece timber, carved the end to a sharp point, and hid it. When the cyclops returned, Odysseus spoke up, and offered the Cyclops some strong wine he had brought with him. Polyphemus drank the wine and became very drunk, he then asked for Odysseus's name. Odysseus told him his name was “No man'" and the Cyclops fell asleep. Odysseus and his men took the timber, heated it and pushed it into the eye of Polyphemus. Polyphemus told the other cyclops on the island, no man had did it. Odysseus and his men escaped on the cyclops's sheep and sailed away.
